Pune reporter| Recently, a few days ago, marijuana (commonly known as “ganja”) was found in the hostel rooms of some students at Savitribai Phule Pune University. This incident has raised concerns about substance abuse within the university premises.
Several months prior to this incident, other illicit substances and alcohol bottles were also discovered on the university campus. Unfortunately, due to laxity of administration, such incidents continue to occur. The university administration has not yet implemented effective measures to prevent such occurrences or take action against students found in possession of such substances.
In response to this situation, The Day before yesterday the National Students Unions of India (NSUI) organized a protest in Savitribai Phule Pune University, demanding immediate action against drug abuse within the university. As well as today ABVP (Akhil Bhartiy Vidyarthi Parishad) aslo protest against this incident. During the protest, clashes occurred between ABVP activists police and university security personnel. The situation escalated further when ABVP members staged a sit-in protest in front of the main administrative building.
Pune, known as the “Oxford of the East,” is home to several educational institutions. However, until concrete steps are taken to address substance abuse among students, the problem will persist. The university administration must prioritize student safety and well-being by enforcing strict regulations and conducting regular checks to prevent the use of illegal substances on campus.

Aggressive Response Lacking in Addressing Marijuana Issue at the University
Subsequently, the police, along with university security personnel, decided to stop activists of ABVP (Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad), the student activists staged a demonstration in front of the main administrative building, demanding accountability from the authorities.

In Savitribai Phule Pune University, a few days ago, ganja was found in the students’ dormitory. A few months ago, drugs and liquor bottles were found in the university premises. Such incidents are happening in the university due to laxity of the university administration. ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) Pune Mahanagar protested against the fact that the University has not yet taken any remedial plans to stop these incidents and also no action has been taken against the students who were found with such items.
On this occasion, ABVP activists woke up the administration by protesting in front of the main building. Pune is the home of education and ABVP will continue to work in this protest till action is taken against the students consuming such drugs in this educational premises.
